Dear Prayer Warriors,
Greetings in our Savior's wonderful name! He is worthy of our love and
obedience. Sometimes I want to complain, but time spent with Him in His
Word brings me back to contentment in His loving, sovereign will. God truly
does know best and does all things well. Praise Him!
This week they finally gave me a date for my surgery. It will be, Lord
willing, Sept. 14. Pre-approval by MediCal and a surgeon's jury duty were
the reasons given for this later date. In any case, I now have a date and
some time before then to do other things. Dr. Frakes continues to be
pleased at the results from my chemotherapy and has started me on Tamoxifen,
which should help to keep the tumor from growing while I wait for surgery.
She said I will be taking this medicine for the next 2 to 3 years. It also
works to prevent the recurrence of the cancer. Pray for protection from the
worst side effects, which include blood clots in the legs or lungs and
cartaracts.
Praise the Lord, they had 150 children at the DVBS at Efata Baptist Church
in Iquitos! In the brief report I had, they said 71 children trusted Christ
as their Savior. Please pray that these children will get involved in a
good Bible teaching church as most of them are probably hearing children.
Pray for Pastor Abraham and his wife Patsy as they are somewhat discouraged
with the work at the church there. The church anniversary is at the end of
this month, and missionary Shane Rice will be their special speaker. Pray
that the Lord will use him to encourage the pastor and congregation there.
Also, my fellow missionaries, Rich and Dee Donaldson, are returning to
Iquitos within the next week and will be helping in Efata when they can.
May the Lord bless each of you as you serve Him. I am praying for the
requests some of you have brought to my attention. Keep looking up!
With love in Christ,
Lynn Porter
