Dear Prayer Warriors,

Greetings from Iquitos! Thank you for your prayers. The Lord continues to work, though at times it seems that nothing is happening.

Praise the Lord for touching lives of young people at Betsan Baptist Church! Four young people were baptized July 31, and they are organizing the youth group that meets on Saturday night, as well as leading church services and helping in Sunday school. Please pray for continued fervor and for wisdom for Pastor Enrique as he shepherds them.

Iquitos Baptist Bible Institute finished the first semester July 8 and began the second semester August 9. This semester, Lord willing, I will be teaching only one class, on Revelation. Angelica has not come to register so she may not be studying this semester. Lord willing, she and David will be getting married on Oct. 16.

Pastor Abraham, of Efata Baptist Church for the deaf, is teaching at the institute as well. His classes are Greek II and False Cults. Tonight he asked to speak to me and through me to share some needs with you. He has recently returned from Lima where he took his wife, Patsy, for some medical procedures. The tests and biopsies would normally have cost 5,000 soles ($1,800) but were reduced to 2,200 soles ($791). They received some offerings for half this amount but still need 1,100 soles ($395). Please pray for Patsy’s health and for the Lord to meet this need on their behalf. Pastor Abraham also shared concerning the church’s 25th anniversary coming up, August 27-29, and invited me to have a part in interpreting for the special speaker who is coming. Please pray for these meetings as well, that the Lord would pour out His blessings on our deaf friends so that many would surrender to Him.

We desperately need a revival here in Iquitos, and not only among the deaf. Our hearing churches need one, too. I know I need an outpouring of God’s Spirit in my own life. Please join me in praying for this. May God be glorified in each of us and may our time before His throne be precious.

Your sister in Christ,

Lynn Porter
