Dear Prayer Warriors,

Greetings from Iquitos! This is my last opportunity to share with you in 2009. J Praise the Lord for His work in lives and ministries here in the Peruvian jungle!

Three men graduated from the Iquitos Baptist Bible Institute Dec. 5. Please continue to pray for the need of an administrator for the 2010 school year. Lord willing, we will be having meetings the third week of January to discuss the future of the institute. Pray we will know the Lord’s will for this important ministry of leadership training.

At Betsan Baptist Church we are rejoicing in the baptism of two young people, Uzias and Magaly, on Dec. 24. J Pray for them in their continued spiritual growth and for others to join them in following the Lord. Pray, too, for Maria, Pastor Enrique’s wife, who will be teaching the children’s class during most of January as I will be traveling to Arequipa for a field team meeting, January 10-17, and then preparing for the deaf retreat January 25-30.

Please pray for the preparations for the deaf retreat. We are making advances, but slowly. I praise the Lord for Doris and David who are committed to making this retreat a reality for the deaf, and for Eva and Lee Johnson and others coming from Chiclayo. I really feel my own lack in the area of leadership for the team. Please pray for me for extra wisdom in this area. Thanks!

In reviewing the use of the Source of Light Bible lessons for 2009, I am happy to see that 202 students from 13 churches studied 1007 lessons. Thankfully, Pastor Juan Garcia graded 200 of those lessons, so that eased my workload some. Pastor Percy Puertas and his church members studied almost 500 lessons just in the last three months. Lord willing, he and his wife, Magnolia, will be able to help with grading the lessons in the near future as they complete their own studies. Among the students are the 20 deaf that I worked with during 2009. Lord willing, some of them will join us in the river deaf retreat in January.

In February, Lord willing, I will be making a quick trip to Lima to have the “probably benign” mammogram finding checked out by my oncologist there. Praise the Lord I continue to have good health and energy!

May 2010 be the year we draw ever closer to the Lord Jesus Christ and encourage others to join us in following Him. Have a Blessed New Year!

Your sister in Christ,
Lynn L. Porter
