Dear Prayer Warriors,
Greetings from Iquitos! Praise the Lord for safe travels and everything arriving in Iquitos! After spending a few days in Lima with friends, I arrived home Sat. morning. The ladies at the El Salvador Baptist Church were happy to receive another copy of the book, Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World. Another Deaf friend, Martha, came to request that I teach her Source of Light. We set her class for Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m.
Praise the Lord for the wonderful month here in the States with my family! We celebrated my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary with a family trip to Big Bear Lake and hikes in the surrounding mountains. It was beautiful! On their actual anniversary, we had family pictures taken, took them out to eat at a restaurant with an ocean view, and gave them a picture frame from Peru in which to display the family photo. Just a few days ago we got the photo, and Pam cut it to fit the irregular sized frame. Neat! We also celebrated Melody’s graduation from high school. She is my oldest niece and has been accepted to study kinesiology at Master’s College in the fall. Family fellowship was fun!
The medical check-ups went well. Thank you for praying! In addition, I also had 3 wisdom teeth pulled and two cysts taken off my back. Everything is healing well. Praise the Lord!
A special blessing this time was being able to attend the Deaf Baptist Fellowship conference in Long Beach. This was the first time they came to California. They were very favorably impressed with California’s coastal weather. The welcome and the fellowship were warm, and I enjoyed seeing many friends, both old and new. (That is not a reference to age!) At the same time I was able to spend time with my Aunt Ethel and see 4 of my cousins. Pray for my aunt as she is going through some health issues now. She is my dad’s oldest sister.
Now I am headed back to Peru. Next week there is a seminar to teach us how to use the sound systems correctly. This is a much needed training for our churches in Iquitos. The second semester at the Bible institute begins on July 30, and I am scheduled to teach “Life of Christ.” My class will be on Thursdays 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. with choir practice before and after. I am helping the contralto section and need to memorize the words and music. Of course, Lord willing, I will also be teaching the Source of Light Bible lessons to the 17-18 students on weekdays except Thursdays.
Please pray for the 14-member team coming from Calvary Baptist Church in Oceanside, my parents’ church. They have been working very hard preparing to minister both in Iquitos and in the towns along the Amazon River. Pray for protection (several have health issues), for sufficient funds, and for all the passports to come through. Pray for our preparations in Iquitos to receive them and work out the logistics so that their 10 days will produce maximum fruit for God’s glory. The dates for their trip are August 6 – 17.
Well, I’ll see if I can get on the internet and send this out. Take care and keep looking up! God bless you!
Your sister in Christ,
Lynn Porter
