Dear Prayer Warriors, Thank you for keeping up the good work! God is active in lives here in Peru as we pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest field. We don’t always see what He is doing, but He is working, and one day it will be evident.

This morning, after teaching four Sundays on “Thinking on what is true” (Phil. 4:8), I asked for testimonies on how the lessons have impacted their lives. A couple of the ladies shared how the Lord has reminded them of truths from His Word that we had studied to turn their attention from their problems to Him and His work in their lives. Yes, I am teaching the ladies’ Sunday School class at El Salvador Baptist Church. Leaving an hour before Sunday School starts, a 22-cent bus ride gets me there on time. The class of 12 – 22 adolescents, young mothers, older mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers are an encouragement to me. We are starting the study of Martha and Mary of Bethany, using the book, Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World, by Joanna Weaver. I have two copies of the book, one in English and one in Spanish. I left the Spanish copy with them to read during the week. It looks like they will read it during their weekly ladies’ meeting. That is probably because some of the older ladies have trouble reading – either they never learned to read or do not have good enough eyesight for it. Pray that I will be able to locate at least two more copies in Spanish. I look forward to celebrating Mothers’ Day with the 18 mothers in the class next Sunday.

Thank you for your prayers for the deaf who are studying Source of Light. There are now 17 who are studying. Pray for wisdom in teaching and for the Holy Spirit to give understanding. One of the girls was unable to give me a clear salvation testimony. I have been concerned for “D” for some time as she gives assent to the Gospel but her life shows otherwise.

Well, I will have to finish this later. Divine Redeemer Baptist Church is celebrating their 30th anniversary today. A couple of my neighbors have been attending with me this past month, and last Sunday one of them made a public decision when the invitation was given. Pray for “P” to grow in her understanding. Back later . . .

Later . . . I just got home at 9:30 p.m. We are on Eastern Standard Time, but not on Daylight Savings Time. We had a good meeting. “P” went with me. Missionary David Barnes preached a great salvation message. I missed his wife, Bertha. David said she was not feeling well and was being checked out at the clinic. Pray for the Barnes family and their ministry here. They have been here 1 ˝ years. David is our Bible institute administrator and a teacher there and in other river seminaries.

Speaking of the Bible institute, last Monday was the midterm in the class I have been teaching. Five students passed and three failed. Maria Cahuachi, a pastor’s wife and alumni of the institute, will be teaching the last half of the course, which is Bible geography. Pray that those three students will be able to raise their grades and pass the course. One reason that Maria is helping me is because I will be gone for the month of June. Lord willing, I am returning to California for my next check-up and to celebrate some family milestones.

May the Lord continue to bless you as you love and serve Him. Thank you for your ministry in my life and in the lives of the Peruvians. Keep looking up!

Your sister in Christ,

Lynn Porter
