Dear Prayer Warriors,

Saludos en el nombre de nuestro Salvador Jesucristo. Greetings in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. I praise the Lord for the opportunity and privilege of being able to communicate with you and appreciate your prayers on my behalf and on behalf of the ministry.

The class on Christian Evidences is going well. Thank you again for your prayers. My student with migraines has had to drop out of classes for this semester but has received some financial help in getting glasses and treatment, which has been a special blessing for her. A second student has apparently also dropped the class but with explanation. The remaining ten continue to be interested. Please keep praying for wisdom in preparing the syllabus and in teaching.

This year we are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Iquitos Baptist Bible Institute. This month Israel is celebrating their 60th anniversary, and next month it will be our turn. Pray for good participation from the churches and the graduates, that this time of reflection of God’s graciousness to us in the past will be an encouragement to continue trusting Him to work in and through us in the future.

Lord willing, I will be going to a mission conference in the town of Pevas May 15-18. Please pray for safety in travel and for opportunities to talk to pastors to encourage them to send deaf friends to the next Jan. 2009 retreat. Pevas is the town where my family ministered during my childhood. There is still a vibrant Baptist church there reaching out to other towns along the Amazon and Ampiyacu Rivers. Praise the Lord for Peruvian brethren who are faithful in serving the Lord!

The 10 Deaf students studying the Source of Light lessons continue faithful as well. One has professed Christ as her Savior as a result of her studies. Pray for true spiritual understanding and that she will start attending church. As yet I do not see the fruit of a true rebirth.

Betsan Baptist Church will be celebrating their anniversary the end of this month. I am still teaching the children’s class and waiting for them to complete the prophet’s chamber. Pray that it will be completed soon.

The hospitals are going on strike again so I will not be able to visit patients in the oncology department. Please pray that it will be over soon.

The Dayton Christian School is sending their high school mission team to Iquitos June 12-26 under the leadership of one of our former short-termers, Sarah Britton. Pray that I will be able to handle all the details on this end and that their ministry will be a blessing.

The dollar has lost a good part of its value here as in other places. Praise the Lord He continues to make it stretch to cover expenses! Sometimes He does this through making our expenses less than before. The Nissan Bluebird just had a maintenance check and has not needed repairs yet this year, which is a blessing. J

May our gracious God supply all of your needs as well. Keep looking up! Our Lord Jesus is coming soon!

Your sister in Christ in Peru,
Lynn Porter
